Diacamma rugosum Keeping Guide

Diacamma rugosum is a small, very aggressive and active ponerine ant. They readily attack any insect passing nearby, immobilizing them as a team thanks to their fully functional stinger.
This ponerine is very easy to keep, as long as they have humidity and food, everything goes well.
All colonies for sale are guaranteed with a gamergate. The identification of the gamergate was done through the following process: all workers from each colony were individually picked up with tweezers, inspected (presence or absence of gemma which characterize gamergates) then placed in another container. When an ant was found with gemma, the behavior was studied (non-aggressiveness and gathering of other workers around it) in order to confirm with certainty that it is indeed fertilized.
This lengthy identification process partly explains the high price of this species.

Formicarium: Any formicarium with a humid zone and adapted to the colony size will suit them. A 15mm bamboo tube or an evaporation nest with a little substrate are the recommended setups for this species, as larvae need substrate for weaving.
